Why GPS?

Just a few years ago, GPS navigation was next to useless for cycling. It could sometimes give you the precise coordinates of your location. But that didn’t help you much, if you were out on a trail or lost in the bowels of a city. You would have been much better off ripping pages out of an atlas and shoving them into your back pocket before you left home.

Even when the software improved, GPS satellite coverage wasn’t always reliable. And as you know, the First Law of Satellite Technology clearly states that your odds of getting lost multiply exponentially when you enter areas with poor or completely nonexistent satellite coverage.

But now all of that has (mostly) changed. The coverage is better, the software is more user friendly and the kits themselves keep getting smaller and more sophisticated every year. If you haven’t already got a GPS navigation kit, it’s a good time to jump in.
