If it’s going to get dark before 5:00 PM, you really don’t have a choice. A ride after work means a ride in the dark.

That’s when you discover that the routes you could ride sound asleep by day can seem strange and disorienting by night. None of your regular markers are visible. The familiar shapes that your eyes usually follow are in dark. So your focus falls on the road – which is lit differently and is not what you’re normally looking at so closely by day.
