Reflectek Cycling Helmet Review Reviewed By:James Anderson Reviewed On: November 30, 2004 Product Page:Kuji Sport Price: $19.95 - $49.95
In Depth Look
The helmet that we were giving for the review was just off the production line so it was not packaged. This helmet is the lowest priced helmet in the line. I noticed the reflective material on the helmet did seem to be of high quality but teaded to scratch off pretty easy. Maybe the helmets for the public will have some sort of clear protective covering to prevent this from happening. The helemt was fairly comfortable for a helemt of this price and I am sure the higher priced ones will look better and feel better. I rode one night just to see how far away I could be seen and found some interesting results. I first had someone shine automobile lights on me and the helmet was very reflective about 260 yards. You could see it even farther when there was no other lights in the area like street lights. Next, I had someone use a very bright flashlight, the kind police officers use, and found that you could actually see reflection just over 300 hundred yards. I really don't have a logical explanation for this other than a different type of bulb and that their was more of a spot type light directly at the helmet. I had several people ask me at traffic lights where I got the helmet, so it was pretty popular tonight.
Conclusion
I would have to say that I was very supprised at how much reflection this helmet gave off. It could be more comfortable but what could you say for $19.95. I believe the helmet will be great for preventing accidents for people who ride at night. It could be a great asset to police officers and other bike security personnel unless they feel they should not be seen by the "bad guys" out there. If Kuji Sports can put some reflective colors on the helmets I believe they will be more successful with them. Cycling Reviews would like to thank Kuji Sports for help making this review possible.
