The LED's are really bright and is increased by an aluminum refelector inside the unit and by the red reflective lens on the outside. The visibilty is extreme as we were seeing the light flashing at least one half mile on a dark road with no other lights around. It was in the flashing mode while testing this. The other modes were not as visible at long distance. The Flash X has LED's on each side of the unit which will give you much more safety from the side. There are three LED's on the rear of the unit that gives you plenty of exposure from the rear.
