The Ride
I wanted to try the pedals in a hurry so I rode out for a quick ride on a four mile bike path. I found that clipping in was very easy since I was accustomed to clip type pedals. I rode for a while with no problems and stayed clipped in all the time with the exception of when I was trying to clip out. Clipping out was very easy for me and it seemed I could clip out a little faster with the Candy SL than other pedals that I have tried. Next, I wanted to do the 17 mile mountain bike trail that is not far from my location. It is a brisk cold Saturday Morning and had rained most of the night which is what I wanted. I wanted to see just how the pedals did in muddy conditions. This trail is single track most of the way and offers many creeks, rocks, mud areas, and climbs. The first part of the trail was a lot drier than I expected but it soon changed into a muddy mess. The pedals seemed to be holding up very well with no problems. I did manage to clip out in a hurry a few times and clipping back in with all the mud and dirt was no problem. I completed my ride with the Candy SL’s holding up well although they did not look nothing like the former photos that I had taken. It seemed kind of bad to get such nice pedals so dirty. That is exactly what my wife said about my new bike the first time I took it out for a muddy ride. But, that’s just part of the game we play as cyclists.
Conclusion:
What a great product! I would like to see a small package of bike grease included for those who don't keep good bike grease around. The packaging and presentation is one of the best we have ever seen. Mud and dirt seemed to have no affect on the Candy SL’s. These pedals would make a mountain biker very happy and even road bikers use them. We would like to thank Crank Brothers for providing the pedals for this review.
